The New York Rangers have recalled Cole Beaudoin from Hartford, just hours before hosting the Islanders tonight.

Matthew Robertson was assigned in the same move, per NHL Rosters.

The post didn't include a reason for the recall.

Calling someone up on game day usually means one of two things. Somebody's banged up, or somebody has earned a look.

It's the restaurant phoning a line cook on his day off an hour before the dinner rush.

Does Beaudoin play tonight? That wasn't part of the announcement.

The move comes two days after Joseph Veleno had to be helped to the dressing room with no weight on his right leg, per Peter Baugh.

No update on Veleno accompanied the recall.

He's 26, carries a $1,200,000 cap hit and has dressed in all four games without a point.

Baugh had already flagged the Rangers' center depth, wondering who would slot in at fourth-line center.

Mike Sullivan's Rangers are 3-1-0 and have won three straight, including Sunday's 4-2 win over Utah. Their only loss came in the opener, 3-0 in Boston.

Arsenal Sports had them taking over first place after Sunday's games.

Adam Fox leads the team with four assists, and Eeli Tolvanen has three goals.

Gabriel Perreault has three points of his own, and rookie Alberts Smits has brought plenty of edge on the blue line.

Igor Shesterkin sits at .934 and already has a goalie goal, while Dylan Garand has yet to allow a goal in three appearances.

Sunday's game also featured a center-ice scrum and Will Cuylle's check from behind on Dylan Guenther.

Peter DeBoer's Islanders come in 1-1-0 after a 6-0 win over New Jersey, with Ilya Sorokin at .968. Casey Cizikas, Victor Eklund and Simon Holmstrom have two points apiece.

After tonight, the Rangers visit Washington on Friday.

Beaudoin gets his chance at the right time. If Veleno is out for a while, a good night against the Islanders could keep him in New York longer than one game.
