1) Scope

This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, as well as the choices and rights you have when you use the Service, create an account on Markerzone, participate in pools, leagues or games, contact us, or interact with our content, advertisements and social networks.

2) Information we collect

When creating an account, we collect the following information that you provide directly:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email address
  • Password (stored in encrypted/hashed form — we never have access to your password in plain text)

We also automatically collect, as you browse:

  • IP address (used for security, fraud prevention and detection of login anomalies).
  • Usage and technical data: pages visited, links clicked, referring URLs, browser type, operating system.
  • Content and contributions: comments, poll responses, search queries, pool and team names, selections in pools and leagues.
  • Advertising data: cookie preferences, interactions with ads served by Google.

We collect data directly from you, automatically through cookies, and from service providers such as analytics tools, Google (advertising) and anti-spam services.

3) Purposes of use

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain and improve the Service (account, pools, leagues, games, statistics).
  • Measure site performance and improve user experience.
  • Communicate with you (account confirmations, notifications, newsletter if you are subscribed).
  • Personalize content and advertising displayed.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse and ensure site security.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

4) Legal bases (GDPR EU/UK)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on consent for analytics and marketing, legitimate interests for security and basic analytics, contract for the services requested (in particular the creation and management of your account), and legal obligation.

5) Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies (necessary for the operation of the site, your account session and remembering your preferences), analytics tools, and advertising tags provided by Google (Google AdSense, Google Ad Manager). On your first visit, a banner allows you to manage your cookie preferences. You can change your choice at any time via the Manage cookies link in the footer. For the detailed list of all cookies used, see our cookie policy.

6) Disclosure and recipients

We share information with:

  • Service providers for hosting, CDN, email delivery and security.
  • Google, for advertising purposes, if you consent via the cookie banner.
  • Authorities when required by law (judicial request, investigation, etc.).

We do not sell your personal information for money.

7) International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your country of residence, such as Canada, the United States or the European Union, particularly by our providers (hosting, Google). We use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses where required.

8) Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described above. When you delete your account, your personal data (first name, last name, email, password) is irreversibly deleted or anonymized, subject to any legal retention obligation. Session files are automatically deleted upon logout or after 30 days of inactivity.

9) Security

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data, including:

  • Password encryption using modern algorithms (bcrypt).
  • Encrypted HTTPS connections across the entire site.
  • Secure server-side sessions: your personal data (first name, last name, email) is stored on our servers and never transits in clear text through your browser. Only a random and secure identifier (HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite cookie) is used to recognize you.
  • Restricted access to data by our team.
  • Monitoring of connections to detect anomalies.

However, no system is 100 percent secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10) Your rights

Quebec (Law 25): You have the right to access, rectify, port your data, and withdraw your consent. Contact our Privacy Officer to exercise these rights.

GDPR (EU/UK): European residents also have the rights to erasure, restriction and portability of their data.

11) Your choices

You may at any time:

  • Modify your account information directly from your profile.
  • Delete your account, which results in the deletion of your personal data.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter via the link provided in each email.
  • Manage your cookie preferences via the link in the footer.
  • Log out at any time to delete your active session.

12) Age restriction

Markerzone is not intended for persons under the age of 14. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 14. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 14 years old. If we learn that an account belongs to a person under the age of 14, we will promptly delete it, along with the associated data.
