37 -year-old Petr Cech, former Arsenal and Chelsea goalkeeper, has retired from soccer. Cech will be hanging up his cleats in exchange for a pair of ice skates.

It was announced today by the Guildford Phoenix, a fourth tier British hockey team, that Cech will serve as their new net-minder. Cech was quoted with much excitement regarding his new endeavor; "I am delighted to have the opportunity to play with the Phoenix to get the match experience," Cech told the club's website. "I hope I can help this young team to achieve their goals for the season and try to win as many games as possible when I have the chance to play. After 20 years of professional football this is going to be a wonderful experience for me to play the game I loved to watch and play as a kid."

Cech is an avid NHL fan and played the sport as a child, growing up in the Czech Republic.

Cech had an astonishing soccer career, winning four FA Cups, four Premier League titles, three English League Cups, as well as winning the Champions League and the Europa League. He also holds the record for the most clean sheets in the Premier League. The 37-year-old will undoubtedly look to bring that same drive and winning aura to his newfound home with the Guildford Phoenix.

Head Coach of the Phoenix, former Slovakian ice hockey player Milos Melicherik was also teeming with excitement when questioned about their new goaltender. "We are very excited to have Petr join the Phoenix team and we are looking forward to seeing him in action this weekend. He has improved a lot since I first saw him on the ice and I am excited to see him play."

Cech will make his ice hockey debut this Sunday, October 13th, when the Guildford Phoenix host the Swindon Wildcats.
