The Buffalo Sabres have announced that defenseman Zach Bogosian has been placed on waivers. If he is not picked up by another team in the next 24 hours, he will join the Rochester Americans of the AHL.
The 29-year-old had requested a trade from Buffalo earlier in the season. Given his cap hit and performance, it was unlikely that would happen. Bogosian has one goal and five points in 19 games this year. He's on the final year of a seven-year contract paying him $5.14 million per season. He will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Bogosian has never put up great numbers since joining the Buffalo Sabres in 2014-15, and his defensive play has also dropped off. In February of 2015, he was traded out of Winnipeg, along with Evander Kane and the rights to Jason Kasdorf, to Buffalo in exchange for Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, Brendan Lemieux, Joel Armia, and a conditional first-round pick (Jack Roslovic) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
Bogosian has missed large chunks of several seasons due to injury. That includes this current season when he missed the first 22 games with a hip injury. He's also spent some time as a healthy scratch.
