Per Sportsnet's NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Minnesota Wild have officially relieved head coach Bruce Boudreau of his duties as of Friday morning.
The move comes as somewhat of a shock, given the fact that the Wild have vaulted themselves back into contention for a wild card spot due to their improving play. Thus far, no reason has been provided to the media by GM Bill Guerin.
Boudreau was brought on board to help the Wild right the ship in the 2016-17 season, after former GM Mike Yeo had been replaced midway through the 2015-16 season by interim coach John Tochetti.
Boudreau was in his 4th season as the bench boss in Minnesota. He coached the Wild to playoff berths in each of his first two seasons with the club, but ultimately missed the playoffs last season.
His recent struggles to succeed must be at least a part of the reason for Guerin's decision to move on from the 65-year-old veteran head coach.
Per Michael Russo, Dean Eavson will take over as interim head coach until a more permanent solution can be found.
