Former Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Nate Prosser announced his retirement from professional hockey on Tuesday in a letter posted in The Athletic.
"It's over and it's just the beginning. I am overwhelmed with gratefulness as I sit here and type up a goodbye to a career that I dreamed of, worked for, and lived out for the last 11 years. Frick what a dream it was. Looking back now I can see how much God worked through it all," Prosser said.
He added, "I'm going to miss those plane right poker games. Taking money from the guys (you know who you are). In all seriousness I've played with some great teammates and even better humans. My first year in the minors I was told that staying in the NHL was harder than getting there and those words couldn't have been more true. Looking back I already know what I'll miss most and it is the locker room chirping and the road trips together. There's nothing like it. Boys I'll miss you all."
Prosser, 35, went undrafted and signed with the Wild out of Colorado College in March of 2010. He went on to play parts of eleven seasons in the NHL with Minnesota, St. Louis and Philadelphia. In 360 games, the Elk River, Minnesota native had 49 points (11 G, 38 A), 231 penalty minutes and was a minus-seven.
