Ovechkin holds nothing back in congratulating Putin on his birthday
Alexander Ovechkin took his time and made sure his prose was as flowery as it could be in congratulating Vladimir Putin on his 67th birthday.
On the official Instagram account of PutinTeam.ru, an organization formed by Ovechkin more than two years ago, he posted a long statement of praise for the Russian strongman.
"What can one wish a president of a country?
"The whole world knows your name. You're an example for millions of people. You are quoted, respected, valued, and feared. Your wisdom, strength and humor have become symbols of our country.
"A strong man is not defined as someone who defeats the weak, but rather someone who helps the weak become strong and you have always followed that rule. You're the captain, and behind you is a team of like-minded thinkers.
"My wish is that you remain at the head of the government as long as possible, inspiring us to new great deeds, achievements, developments. That you would be remembered by history as someone who changed things for the better. May you, Vladimir Vladimirovich, and our country, enjoy prosperity!"
