Evander Kane will reportedly avoid being booted from the NHL

It appears Evander Kane of the San Jose Sharks may avoid the worst possible scenario as the league investigates him for allegedly using a fake vaccination card. According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, Kane will likely not have his NHL contract terminated following the investigation.

"It's sounds like the NHL is leaning towards suspending San Jose Sharks' Kane under supplementary discipline ( 18- 18A of the CBA). After serving his set amount of games it's likely he'll be clear to resume his career," said Kypreos on Twitter.

It has been an eventful year for Kane, starting with filing for bankruptcy back in January after racking up million of dollars in gambling debt. He was then accused of betting on NHL games by his estranged wife, something the league has said it could find no evidence of, and also of physically and sexually assaulting her while the two were still together. Then came the allegation that he provided the league with a vaccination card to prove he'd been inoculated against COVID-19 that was faked. The NHL is still investigating that claim.

This year was far from the start of Kane's problems. He's been arrested more than once since entering the NHL. It's also been reported numerous times that he is not well-liked by his teammates, regardless of what team he happens to be on. While the report from Kypreos indicates he won't be barred from the NHL, that doesn't mean the Sharks can't terminate his contract if that's the route they want to go. He has four seasons left on his current deal with an AAV of $7 million. Kane was not included on the Sharks opening night roster and the team stated he's considered a "non-roster player" at least until the NHL's most recent investigation is completed.
