The New York Islanders have been on a dangerous losing streak in their playoff series against the Hurricanes. With another win for Carolina, goaltender Ilya Sorokin abandoned his team after his poor performance.

The Carolina Hurricanes are only one game away from sweeping the New York Islanders in their first-round playoff series. This latest win for the southern team occurred last night after goaltender Ilya Sorokin let 3 goals in just over a dozen shots go through, resulting in his pull from the game.

"Ilya Sorokin allows 3 goals on 13 shots and gets pulled in his 1st start of these playoffs 😬"

This 28-year-old goaltender spent much of the rest of the night leaning on the wall avoiding the public eye as one commentator points out.

"Hasn't taken the mask off, hasn't taken a seat. He's kind of standing: leaning on the wall in the tunnel towards the Islander dressing room."

The other broadcaster addressed how Sorokin is clearly upset over his removal from the game. He, however, believes it is more about his personal performance than the decision made to pull him.

"Gotta be really upset, more so with himself than anyone else. He's not gonna blame anybody. I mean, he's in the net. "

Unfortunately, Sorokin was too upset about the game to join the team in the dressing room. His head coach Patrick Roy commented on his status after the game.

"We win and lose as a team. Sometimes, we make changes as a coach because we feel we just want to change the momentum of the game. I'll leave it at that."

With three losing games behind him, Sorokin has a lot to answer for. Yet, many fans believe this Islanders goaltender is due for a comeback for this player in the next season, hopeful that he can redeem his poor playoff performance.

While it would be great for Sorokin to get redemption for his team next season, he has to remain focused for the team's next game against the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow. If he has another performance like he did last night, the New York Islanders will be the first team eliminated from the playoffs.
