Nikita Zadorov, who signed a new one-year deal with the Calgary Flames this week, doesn't have anything good to say about a very popular hockey and sports publication. Zadorov just completed an interview in his home country of Russia, where he trashed The Athletic for a poll where almost 91 percent of respondents said Chicago was right to trade him away rather than sign him to a new deal.

"I understand that last year 90 percent of The Athletic readers said that Josh Anderson got a terrible contract, and then the man scored in the final for Montreal," said Zadorov. "Sofa critics, as they say. Yes, and this is a publication ... There are not very cool professionals who wrote that I asked $ 5.8 million from Chicago for 800 years. This newspaper speaks for itself with such publications."

As for how things went down in Chicago, Zadorov said there wasn't much back-and-forth.

"We had no requests at all, since there were no negotiations. Towards the end of the season, an offer came from the club, after which there was a few months of silence. There was an offer at the beginning of July, we talked, but did not come to anything. After that, the dialogue stopped altogether," he said.

Zadorov's deal with Calgary pays him $3.75 million next season. He will be an unrestricted free agent after that.
