With a gaping hole at the center ice position, the Boston Bruins are likely to turn to Charlie Coyle to play on the second line. The 2C role has been held by long-time Bruin David Krejci, who left the NHL to return home to the Czech Republic. Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said on Thursday that Coyle will be given the first opportunity to take over the 2C role going into next season.

"I think the obvious choice is Charlie Coyle," Cassidy said. "He's the most familiar with our guys. I'm the most familiar with him. [It] allows the other guys to fall into place...Charlie and Taylor Hall, and [Craig] Smith were on that line last year. If Coyle can bring some of what [Krejci] did, it'll be a real good line."

Cassidy also went on to add that Erik Haula and Jack Studnicka will also receive the opportunity to play in that role.

Coyle, 29, didn't have the greatest of seasons when it come to statistics. In fact, it was his lowest single season point total since his rookie year in 2012-13. In 51 games, Coyle had 16 points (6 G, 10 A), 20 penalty minutes, and was a -4.

Replacing Krejci won't be an easy task, especially when it comes to his leadership, but Bruce Cassidy has confidence in Charlie Coyle that he can become the Bruins' 2C for the 2021-22 season.
