Hagel, 22, had a strong rookie campaign with the Blackhawks. In 52 games during the regular season he tallied 24 points (9 G, 15 A), 11 penalty minutes, and was a -7.
The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native's play during the 2020-21 season caught the eye of Roberto Luongo, who was the GM of Canada's men's national team for the World Championships. Hagel played in all ten games in the tournament but didn't record a point as Canada brought home the gold medal.
"Brandon's ascension to a regular role last season provided a huge boost to our team," said President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Stan Bowman. "We were quite pleased with the growth he showed in his game and ability to handle tougher assignments. His continued development at this level will allow him to be a valuable contributor to our offense moving forward."
