The Carolina Hurricanes have made some intriguing additions this summer, and now it appears they're taking a shot on a very familiar face.

Earlier today, news broke that the Carolina Hurricanes were bringing in former Nashville Predators standout Rocco Grimaldi, and now, it appears that's not the only addition they've made today. According to a report, former Charlotte Checkers forward Skyler Brind'Amour, who happens to be the son of Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour, although it has not officially been announced by the team.
The 25-year old spent four seasons with Quinnipac University, tallying 52 points over his final two campaigns, before officially making his professional debut a season ago. That run came with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL, and while the point production wasn't quite there, as he would score just 3 goals and 8 points in 54 games played, with his combination of size (6-foot-2) and skill, he projects to be a solid player at the next level.
It's unclear whether this deal would be a PTO or a proper contract with the Hurricanes, but regardless, this shows confidence from Carolina that he can take a big step forward at the professional level, with the IQ to be a fantastic player in the NHL one day.
The centre was a sixth round draft pick way back in 2017, but has yet to get an opportunity at the next level, so whether fans believe the deal is purely because of his father or not, he has the tools, and now he has the opportunity to prove he can put it all together.
