Tributes continue to flow in for Adam Johnson, who passed away on Saturday following an on-ice accident during an EIHL game while playing for the Nottingham Panthers.

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they will honor his memory by wearing a decal with ‘AJ 47' on their helmets for the remainder of the season. The team also held a ceremony prior to their home game on Monday night to celebrate the life of Johnson, who played in 13 games for the club over two seasons.
Hockey players from across the globe continue to express their shock and sadness over the incident. On Sunday night, the Ontario Reign of the AHL, a team where Johnson played on for parts of two seasons, honor his legacy by naming him the number one star following their game on Sunday.
Following Monday's morning skate, former teammate Syndey Crosby looked back on his time with Johnson fondly.

League mandates neck guards for players

In the wake of this awful incident, the EIHL announced on Monday that neck guards and protectors will be mandatory for all players starting in 2024.
In the short term, the league has recommended all players wear a neck guard or protecter until the mandate goes into effect.
"Undoubtedly, this moment in time casts a somber shadow upon our global sporting community, serving as a stark reminder of our collective responsibilities as custodians of the sport," the EIHA said in a statement. "As in all sports, the safety of our players must take precedence above all else. We are firmly committed to our obligation to exhaust every possible means to ensure that a tragic incident of this nature never befalls our sport again."
