Brendan Gallagher finally said something real about the Vancouver Canucks, and it's exactly the message that locker room needs right now.
Since the trade sending him from Montreal to Vancouver this summer, Gallagher had stayed mostly quiet with the media.
He gave a short press conference right after the deal was announced, but nothing more substantial than that, until now.
Speaking with Kevin Woodley, Gallagher laid out exactly what he hopes to bring to his new team.
"I hope there will be young players that I can help, accelerate their development in certain aspects of what it means to be a professional," Gallagher said.
He didn't stop at skill development either.
"One of the most important things we did in Montreal, which sometimes goes unnoticed, is that beyond adding good players, we created a real good culture," Gallagher said.

"That comes from your darkest days, and having guys who want to be present and engaged in the process," he continued.
"Any organization, sports or otherwise, is nothing without culture, and that will be my priority first and foremost."
That's a veteran talking about the exact thing Vancouver has been missing since last season completely fell apart.
The Canucks finished 25-49-8 last season, dead last in the entire league, the kind of finish that tends to break a young room's belief in itself.
Gallagher posted 23 points last season, 7 goals and 16 assists over 77 games, numbers that reflect a role player now, not a scorer.
His value in Vancouver was never going to be about the stat sheet. It's about exactly what he just described to Woodley in that interview.
Whether Gallagher's message actually takes root in that dressing room is something only time, and a very long rebuild, will genuinely answer.
