The Edmonton Oilers are attempting to clear the air after a Dallas hotel filed a lawsuit against the team for unpaid bills. In a statement, the team insists the unpaid charges are a result of an embarrassing accounting glitch and they are not disputing the bills in any way.

“We have the same challenges as every business navigating through the far-reaching, negative impacts of the global pandemic,” said the statement from the Oilers. “We are working diligently through our business operations and attending to outstanding issues from the unexpected stoppage of last season.

“The Crescent Court Hotel has been a good partner and we are working co-operatively with them to resolve this matter.”

The Crescent Court is alleging the Oilers bounced a $28,000 check following a stay they had in December. The same hotel went on to mention that the team owes an additional $27,000 for a stay they had in March. The hotel has said the lawsuit will be dropped if and when the bills are paid, something Edmonton insisted it is getting done ASAP.

According to the Oilers, the money owed is simply for a block of rooms for team members and staff and has nothing to do with damage to property or unpaid restaurant tabs. It stated the team has no other outstanding debts to hotels. The hotel has said the Oilers will be welcomed back once the bills are paid.
