No coach wants to lose their best player for a lengthy period of time for any reason, and former NHLer turned coach of the University of Wisconsin's men's hockey team Tony Granato is no different. Granato is expressing frustration over losing Dylan Holloway, taken 14th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2020, to a longer than usual Team Canada training camp to prepare players for the World Junior Hockey Championship, which begins Christmas Day.

"They've said all along that they need and want and he has to be here," Granato told the Wisconsin State Journal. "So from my side of things, I don't think it's right because his opportunity here to get ready for a World Junior tournament playing games like this is a heck of a lot better than scrimmaging 20 of your teammates that you're going to be in the tournament with."

Holloway, who is now in Red Deer for the 28-day WJC camp, will miss the last 10 games of the first half of the NCAA hockey season. In contrast, the U.S. team had an evaluation event in October and plans to bring its players together around Dec. 10 before they enter the tournament bubble. UW forwards Cole Caufield, Owen Lindmark and Sam Stange are in consideration but likely won't miss Badgers games before the break. Even Holloway himself expressed some concern about the time he'll miss with his team.

"I'm kind of upset about that," Holloway said. "I want to be there with the boys but it's going to be a really good opportunity."

"We'll miss [Holloway] but we'll do our best to play the same way we played," Granato said. "I don't think this weekend was a one-man show by any means. Certainly, he was a huge part of both victories, especially on the power play, especially down the middle of the ice."
