Some hockey men will have a thousand chances in the NHL. Peter Chiarelli seems to be one of them. In a recent article for the Toronto Sun, controversial Toronto journalist Steve Simmons left a suspicion regarding a rumor involving former Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Simmons not only linked Chiarelli to an NHL team, but also indicated that rumors are circulating in the league that this could make his future position significant. According to Simmons, there was talk of linking Chiarelli to the Arizona Coyotes, where he would play a better role than actual general manager John Chayka.

"An old rumor is circulating again: are the Arizona Coyotes considering bringing Peter Chiarelli to a position above general manager John Chayka?" - Steve Simmons

Simmons says the news is somewhat surprising given that Chiarelli's poor decisions in Edmonton have caused his departure. Although he made some clever moves during his tenure, including the contract signed with NHL top scorer Leon Draisaitl, he was also marred by controversial deals, such as the trade of Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson.

Despite Chiarelli's apparent lack of success during his tenure as general manager of the Oilers, he would apparently be promoted, probably in a position of president of hockey operations or something. It would be very interesting to see how this decision would be received by John Chayka, a man who, not so long ago, entered the league as the youngest general manager of the NHL.
