Gretzky and Ovechkin to face off against one another in NHL 20
The Great One and The Great Eight are hitting the virtual ice.
The idea comes after NHL all-time leading goal scorer, Wayne Gretzky, saw the Instagram video of Washington's Captain playing NHL 20 with his son, Sergei.
Gretzky reached out to Capitals' Vice President of Communications, Sergei Kocharov, hoping to arrange a virtual game against Ovi.
Following the call, the digital match up of the ages has been set.
Wednesday, April 22nd, Alexander Ovechkin and Wayne Gretzky will face off in NHL 20. In an event dubbed The Great One vs. The Great Eight Showcase, the two will battle it out through a best-of-three series.
The series will be streaming live, beginning at 8 p.m. (Eastern time), on the Capitals' Twitch Channel, with live appears from both Ovechkin and Gretzky.
While watching the games, viewers will have the opportunity to donate to the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation, as well as the Edmonton Food Bank, with proceeds going to benefit the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) relief effort.
Given that Gretzky retired six seasons prior to Alexander Ovechkin being drafted by the Washington Capitals, this should be a hockey event to watch, as it'll be the closest the two ever get to facing off against one another.
