Kaiden Guhle gave Martin St-Louis and the Canadiens a real scare at Bell Centre practice before the trip to Carolina.

That's the last thing Montreal wanted to see with Game 1 against the Hurricanes right around the corner.

One awkward sequence was enough to freeze the building for a second.

The moment came during practice when Brendan Gallagher collided with Guhle by accident. It wasn't dirty. It wasn't dramatic.

But the landing looked bad enough to grab everyone's attention.

That line says it all. In the middle of a playoff push, one bad fall can flip the mood of an entire room.

Two regular Canadiens got tangled up in a sequence that could have gone sideways fast.

For a team getting ready for a series this big, that's a brutal sight.

Montreal avoids the worst-case scenario with Kaiden Guhle practice collision

TVA Sports quickly summed up the scare on social media.

And that's the part Montreal will take. A bit of a scare is manageable.

A major injury to one of its regular blue-line pieces would have been a different story.

Guhle did get back up after the fall, which changed the tone right away.

He stayed on the ice and kept working, a sign that the damage may have been limited.

Still, nobody around the Canadiens is going to shrug this off completely.

Guhle is 24, and his injury history has already made every awkward moment feel heavier than it should.

The collision was accidental, but the way he went down made it look like the kind of play that can leave a mark.

Renaud Lavoie later gave his read during his JiC segment, and his words landed because they matched what a lot of people were thinking.

«I've seen Kaiden get injured with far less.

Fortunately, Kaiden gets back up and is able to continue.»

That's the good news for Montreal. Guhle finished the session, and for now, the Canadiens look to have avoided a major blow before puck drop.

But this stays on watch until Game 1.

If Guhle wakes up feeling fine, Montreal moves on. If not, this practice scare gets a lot bigger in a hurry.
