Owning a piece of hockey history would certainly be very cool. However, if you want to get your hands on this one, it's going to cost you big bucks! According to TMZ, a hockey stick believed to have been made sometime between 1850 and 1870 --as the game of hockey was being invented--is hitting the auction block Friday.

The stick was originally discovered by Gary and Germaine Morse in 1980 when the couple purchased a home in Vermont. They had no idea what it was worth so had it assessed. The value came in at $3.5 million. They decided to hold on to the piece of hockey history for another 40 years but recently decided to cash out, asking Goldin Auctions to unload it for them.

A similar stick, called "The Rutherford Stick", sold for $2.2 million in the early 2000s. It was also believed to have been created around the 1850s. It was later donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

The stick is already listed on the Goldin Auctions website. The minimum bid is $100,000.
