In a move that seems purely designed to save some money while the NHL is on hiatus, the Anaheim Ducks have placed forward Kiefer Sherwood on waivers. If he is not picked up by another team by 12 noon ET Monday, he'll be sent to the AHL where he'll be paid less money during the shutdown.

It appears sending Sherwood to the San Diego Gulls will save the team about $100,000 to the end of this season.

Sherwood was never drafted, instead signing a two-year entry level contract with the Ducks in 2017. He's played a total of 60 games with Anaheim over the last two seasons, including 10 in 2019-20. His last call up from the minors was on February 23rd.

Sherwood recorded one assist with the Ducks this season. He has six goals and 13 points in his NHL career so far. The 24-year-old spent three seasons with the University of Miami before being signed by Anaheim.
