Patrick Roy still hasn't shaken off the Islanders firing, and Pete DeBoer's late arrival only made the fallout look worse.

The rumor around Roy has now been confirmed by two strong sources, weeks after his surprising exit from the New York Islanders bench.

One detail stands out right away. Roy's dismissal did not come from Mathieu Darche, which changes how many will read the chain of events.

That matters because the move already felt abrupt.

It now looks even more disconnected from the people many assumed were driving the decision.

"Patrick Roy was shaken: he is having a hard time getting over his dismissal."

And the personal side of it is impossible to ignore.

Along the same lines, we also unfortunately learn that the former number 33 goalkeeper took it extremely hard on a personal level.

That's understandable...

The timing still makes no sense for Patrick Roy's firing

As a reminder, at the beginning of April, Patrick Roy lost his job as head coach of the New York Islanders with only four games left in the season.

The Isles then turned to Pete DeBoer to guide the club through the stretch drive. That move still didn't get New York into the playoffs.

Since then, Roy has stayed mostly out of the public eye. His name surfaced around NHL openings, but nothing concrete ever followed.

Ray Cloutier, who received news of the Quebecer through an intermediary, shared an update on the airwaves of Énergie 98.9.

And what came out of that report was striking.

And what we understand is that Roy was seriously shaken by his dismissal.

He is clearly having a difficult time recovering from this at the moment.

The hardest part to square is the timing.

The dismissal came when the Islanders were still in the playoff fight and when many believed Roy had done strong work behind the bench.

He had pushed the club beyond what plenty expected over the regular season, yet still lost his job at the worst possible moment.

That's the kind of blow that can stay with a coach for years.

It remains to be seen how Patrick Roy will eventually make his comeback in the world of hockey.

And whether the legend will finally get the opportunity to return to the NHL to showcase his exceptional qualities as a head coach.
