In light of the newly dubbed ‘National Emergency' of the spreading Coronavirus, Wednesday and Thursday saw the stoppage of all professional sports.

With that stoppage also comes a stoppage in work for arena employees, a crucial concern as the world sits on edge while the virus continues to spread.

As the concern for arena employees became more apparent, several professional athletes and teams have taken matters into their own hands, pledging to donate to the salaries of arena employees affected by the Coronavirus and stoppage of play.

Among these athletes, Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who, as of Friday, has donated $100,000 to the salaries of BB&T Bank Arena employees who have been displaced by the pause in competition.

An absolutely classy move from the veteran goaltender, who joined the Panthers before the start of the 2019-20 season.

Following Bobrovsky's generous act, teammates and management would follow suit. With his Panthers teammates committing to match his $100,000 donation, and Florida Panthers ownership volunteering to cover any and all additional monetary assistance needed.

While we may not have hockey on our screens, it's clearly still there, in our communities. In times that can be rather troubling, it's quite reassuring to see such an act of compassion and humanity.
