Despite the NHL season being paused at the moment, the Department of Player Safety remains active.

They announced on Friday that New York Rangers forward Brendan Lemieux will be suspended for his late hit on Colorado Avalanche forward Joonas Donskoi, that occurred during the third period of Wednesday night's contest. However, the details of the suspension are still unclear and won't be determined until the NHL establishes guidelines on the resumption of play.

"Following a hearing today, the DOPS (Department of Player Safety) has determined that Brendan Lemieux will be suspended for his hit on Joonas Donskoi Wednesday night," NHL Player Safety wrote on Twitter. "The precise parameters of the suspension will be determined and announced once resumption of play guidelines have been established."

This suspension is Lemieux's second run-in with the DOPS this season; the first came on Dec. 9 when he was fined $2,000 for elbowing Vegas Golden Knights forward Cody Glass.

The 23-year-old has 18 points (6 goals, 12 assists) in 59 games this season.
