Russia's Nikita Nesterov has been a bit of an enigma in the NHL. Obviously talented, but apparently unhappy with life in North America, he left the NHL three years ago to play in the KHL back in his home country. At that time, he signed a three-year contract, which is up at the end of this current season. It appears the L.A. Kings were looking to bring the blueliner back to the NHL.

According to Igor Eronko with Sport Express out of Russia, the Kings offered Nesterov a two-year deal worth around $6 million in total. Apparently it wasn't enough to lure him back as he has a mutual agreement with his current team, CSKA Moscow, on a five-year contract extension.

Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round in 2011, The 26-year-old Nesterov played a total of 132 games in the NHL, all with the Bolts except for 13 with the Montreal Canadiens before heading back to Russia. This current season has been his best since returning home as he has recorded seven goals and 23 points in 53 games.
