The Montreal Canadiens have announced that Henri Richard's funeral will be closed to the public. This decision comes at the request of the family due to the concerns of COVID-19.

Richard, the eleven-time Stanley Cup champion, passed away at the age of 84 on March 6th after a lengthy bout with Alzheimer's disease. The Habs' legendary Hall of Fame forward played for 19 seasons with the team, scoring 358 goals and 1046 points.

“The family would like to thank everyone concerned for their understanding,” the Canadiens released in a statement today.

Unfortunately, the family had no choice but to close it off to the public because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The provincial government already announced that they have banned indoor public events of 250 people or more in order to stop the spread of the virus. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Richard family during this time.
