Zach Bogosian's time with the Buffalo Sabres is seemingly at an end after he cleared waivers and was officially signed to the Rochester Americans of the AHL. However, a report Saturday makes it seem like he may not be reporting to the team.
Joe Yerdon, who covers the Sabres for The Athletic, says he's spoken to Bogosian's agent via text message. Darren Ferris told Yerdon he will sit down with his client in the next few days to discuss his future. While it wasn't stated either way whether he'd be reporting to Rochester, it isn't difficult to draw that conclusion from the message. It appears he's at least considering taking that route.
The 29-year-old Bogosian had requested a trade from Buffalo earlier in the season. Given his cap hit and performance, it was very unlikely that would happen. Bogosian has one goal and five points in 19 games this year. He's on the final year of a seven-year contract paying him $5.14 million per season. He will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
Bogosian has missed large chunks of several seasons due to injury. That includes this current season when he missed the first 22 games with a hip injury. He's also spent some time as a healthy scratch. He joined the Sabres in February of 2015 when he was traded out of Winnipeg, along with Evander Kane and the rights to Jason Kasdorf, to Buffalo in exchange for Tyler Myers, Drew Stafford, Brendan Lemieux, Joel Armia, and a conditional first-round pick (Jack Roslovic) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
