Toronto's goaltending situation takes another turn
When the Toronto Maple Leafs take to the ice at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night against the Dallas Stars, they'll have a fifth different goaltender to start a game for them this season.
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, Erik Kallgren was in the starter's net at practice this morning and will make his first start in the National Hockey League against Dallas. Källgren made his NHL debut on March 10th against Arizona, coming in relief of Petr Mrazek, who allowed four goals on twelve shots.
The goaltending market will be interesting to watch leading up to the NHL's trade deadline on March 21st. With Jack Campbell injured and Petr Mrazek struggling mightily of late, Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas will likely have to search the goaltending market for someone who can come in and provide consistency and possibly take over the starting role, at least until Jack Campbell returns.
But who could the Maple Leafs take a run at? Well, they've reached out to Chicago regarding the availability of Marc-Andre Fleury according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, but it's uncertain at this time if he will waive his no-trade clause to accommodate a move to Toronto. Several other teams have shown interest in Fleury, with the 37-year-old wanting to go somewhere that will give him the best chance to win.
Other names that could potentially be fits for the Maple Leafs include Semyon Varlamov (New York Islanders) and Jake Allen (Montreal Canadiens).
