Gabriel Landeskog to have surgery; out indefinitely
The Colorado Avalanche will be without their captain for an undetermined amount of time. It has been announced that Gabriel Landeskog will be having knee surgery and is out indefinitely.
"It's just been something that's been nagging him for a little bit. ... We'll know more after surgery," said head coach Jared Bednar.
Bednar added he's hoping Landeskog will be back for the "stretch run"
While being without Landeskog isn't ideal for the Avs, it does create an interesting situation. His cap hit this season is $7 million. If he doesn't return in the regular season, this frees up space for Colorado to land a big name at the trade deadline.
The Avalanche will also be without defenceman Sam Girard for about a month.
