Ottawa Senators defenseman Victor Mete has not been seeing a ton of ice time as of late. In fact, most games he has been a healthy scratch. Now it seems that the 23-year-old will be looking for a new home.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Senators have given Mete's agent, Darren Ferris permission to speak to other teams for a possible trade.

Mete was claimed off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens close to the trade deadline last season and played a decent role down the stretch of last season. The Sens and the d-man then agreed to a one-year, $1.2 million deal back in August.

This season has basically been the exact opposite. Mete has been healthy all season minus a four game absence due to COVID-19 protocol, but he has only played in 31 out of a possible 57 games this season. When he does find himself in the lineup, he is playing the role of a sixth defenseman, where he is averaging just 14:56 TOI.

Even with his struggles, teams are interested in Mete, with the payment of a draft pick coming the other way. Since he is only 23, there is still time for Mete to prove that he is a worthy NHL defenseman in the NHL, but that will not be happening in Ottawa.
