Marcus Foligno fined, but avoids suspension for kneeing Jakub Voracek
The NHL's Department of Player has looked at Marcus Foligno's hit on Jakub Voracek in Friday night's game between the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets, and has decided a $5000 fine is the appropriate punishment.
There aren't too many replies to DoPS Tweet that consider this to be the right move. Many felt Foligno would be suspended as he appears to extend his knee in order to catch Voracek's. The hit took place late in the third. Voracek left the game as soon as he was able to get back up. He was clearly in quite a bit of pain.
The Blue Jackets' bench was livid over the fact that there was no penalty on the play, as you can see in the video below.
