It appears it will take a massive overpayment to land Jakob Chychrun
There's been talk since pretty much the beginning of the 2021-22 season that the Arizona Coyotes could be looking to unload Jakob Chychrun. The left-shot defenceman would be a great fit on any team looking to make a deep run. However, if they want him, it appears they are going to pay dearly.
"On the Jakob Chychrun market: Had one NHL GM tell me today that the price is going to be off the charts high," said Greg Wyshynski of ESPN. "That this isn't going to be a '1st and two top prospects' type of deal. @ArizonaCoyotes swinging for fences on the ask, apparently."
That makes a lot of sense. Chychrun is signed until the end of the 2024-25 season at a very reasonable $4.6 million. While the Coyotes are clearly looking for picks and prospects to rebuild the team, Chychrun is just 23 years old. Unless Arizona is planning to take a long time to have a team that can compete, hanging on to Chychrun makes sense, unless there's a team willing to give up a huge haul to land him.
Chychrun was drafted 16th overall in 2016. In 336 career NHL games, he has 53 goals and 142 points.
