Montreal to get huge boost with veteran D-man set to return tonight
The Montreal Canadiens will be getting a huge boost to their defensive core tonight, as a key defender will be making his debut tonight versus the Seattle Kraken.
The team announced Saturday morning that Joel Edmundson will be making his season debut after being out with a back injury for the last while.
Head coach Martin St. Louis appeared to explain that there will be no restrictions for the 28-year-old.
"He's a solid, tough-to-play-against defenceman," Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis said about Edmundson after Saturday's optional morning skate. "I'm looking forward to getting him back into some action."
"I'm sure he'll (be on the penalty-kill). I really trust (assistant coach Luke Richardson) back there in making those decisions. Luke has been here with Joel, seen Joel work in the trenches, on the bench with him. I've not. I'm looking forward to that, but I'm fully going to trust what Luke is going to do out there tonight with our defenseman."
The Canadiens also released some injury updates for a couple other players including Carey Price, who still has no timeline for a return. Backup goalie Jake Allen, who has been sidelined since January 12, is getting closer, but will not play this weekend. Along with this, forwards Jonathan Drouin and Christian Dvorak are getting closer, but they also have no timeline for a return.
The Habs currently sit last in the Atlantic Division with 37 points, (15-35-7) record.
