Former NHLer Dmitri Khristich stays behind in Ukraine: ''We need help, like real help''
Former NHLer Dmitri Khristich is pleading that his country needs more help. Dmitri, alongside his wife, decided to stay behind in Ukraine, while his 15-year-old son, Ilya has fled to Poland.
Khristich says that he's currently safe in the city of Poltava, located in central Ukraine, but has become angry and frustrated that no one is doing anything and that the number of civilian casualties continue to rise every single day.
"The rest of the world is just watching," he said.
Khristich added, "We need help. Like real help," he says. "You're going to let us be killed."

His city of Poltava has remained untouched by Russian forces, but Khristich said that it doesn't matter if he feels safe because the entire country of Ukraine is not safe.
"Everywhere — in the east, in the south, in the north — there's a war," Khristich says. "It doesn't really matter if we're safe or not, because the rest of the country is not safe. That's the main point."
"We are just looking at the news and we don't understand why the West is just sitting and watching how Russians are just destroying Ukraine," he added. "This is so unbelievable."
