Hockey Allsvenskan, the second highest hockey league in Sweden behind the SHL, has handed out a lengthy suspension after a blatant hit the head on Emil Andrae, a second-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2020 (54th overall). The incident took place in a game between HV71 and MoDo last Friday. Late in the first, Andrae took a hit directly to the face from Filip Sveningsson, a seventh-round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2017.

The league has suspended Sveningsson for six games. He has also been fined the equivalent of around $1500 USD. Sveningsson said during his hearing that it was never his intention to hurt Andrae.

"My intention is absolutely not to hurt Emil as I have played with him, and my feeling is that the hit is to the shoulder and then to the head. I'm sorry that the impact took a toll but have also contacted Emil and he confirmed that he is okay and has not sustained any injury."

The league ruled the hit was "careless" and "carries a high risk of injury."
