According to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff, the National Hockey League has informed the KHL that they are cutting all ties and communication between them due Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They've also suspended the Memorandum of Understanding.

In an email sent to general managers, the NHL told teams to, "immediately cease all dealings [direct or indirect] with the KHL and KHL Clubs [and all representatives of both], as well as with player agents who are based in and continue to do business in Russia."

This will result in NHL teams having a bit of a tougher time trying to sign KHL free agents. Teams will still be able to sign free agents from the KHL as long as they are clear of contractual obligations.

If an NHL team wishes to sign a KHL free agent, they must inquire with the Central Registry for the latest update on their status and if they are eligible to sign in North America.

"We will have only limited contractual information regarding players who are currently or last played in the KHL," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said.

As for Russian prospects that are draft eligible this summer, teams are concerned that if they are to select one of them that the United States or Canadian governments won't issue work visas.
