With the ongoing Ukraine-Russia crisis, many fans and players across the globe have been pouring out support for the Ukrainians.
Edmonton is expected to have a significant outpour of support ahead of Wednesday night's game versus Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
Just last Friday, Capital One Arena in Washington was turning away fans that were wearing Ukrainian flags, and Edmonton fans seem to be disagreeing with that decision.
Edmonton has the highest Ukrainian population in all of Canada with nearly 160,000 residents.
We are preparing to encourage fans to wear blue and yellow in support,
Oilers executive vice president, OEG communications and gaming, Tim Shipton revealed.
We will also launch a special online auction where we will auction off the sticks and helmets with them. And we'll also hand out Ukrainian flag stickers to our fans courtesy of the Canadian Ukrainian Congress,
he said.
The Edmonton Oilers stand in solidarity alongside the people of Ukraine. The area is home to more than a quarter million people of Ukrainian heritage and their culture and traditions are a significant part of the fabric of our community here in Oil Country.
We are in awe of the continued generosity of Albertans and we are honored to donate the net proceeds of the March 7 to 9 Oilers 50-50 raffle to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation 50-50 raffle. We encourage all Albertans to come together once again through the 50-50 in support of humanitarian efforts in Ukraine when they need it most.
The Oilers have been slumping a bit lately, and now they find themselves in fourth in the Pacific Division on the outside looking in for the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
