Despite the odds being stacked against him, UFA forward Chris Stewart has signed a one year, one-way deal with the Philadelphia Flyers, following his PTO.

Stewart has been a bit of an enigma over the last 4 years, having washed out of the NHL, signing a KHL contract with HC Slovan Bratislava, failing to report to his team and ultimately electing to retire from professional hockey to deal with family concerns.

On January 3rd, 2019, Stewart ended his retirement to join the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL, posting 13 points in 23 games, adding 4 points in 3 playoff games.

His last stint in the NHL lasted 7 games with the Calgary Flames in the 2017/2018 season. In those 7 games, Stewart registered 1 goal and added 2 assists.

Stewart has certainly been around the block, having played for 6 different NHL teams across 11 NHL seasons from 2008 to 2018. The Toronto, Ontario native has suited up for the Avs, Blues, Sabres, Wild, Ducks, Flames and now, thanks to former Wild GM Chuck Fletcher, whom Stewart has previously played for, he will suit up with his 7th NHL club, the Flyers.

The 31-year-old has posted 321 points in 652 career NHL games.
