83 PEOPLE RECEIVE STADIUM BANS AFTER INCIDENT IN SWITZERLAND'S NATIONAL LEAGUE

NOV 26, 2019  (8H44)      TIM TUCKER
It may be one of the most sweeping arena bans ever for a professional ice hockey league. Switzerland's National League, the top tier of the Swiss league system, has announced 83 people are banned from any team's arenas in the country for three years after an incident involving "violent behaviour" on November 16th.

According to the league, during a game between HC Fribourg-Gotteron Dragons and SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, fans of the Dragons "misbehaved". Their actions included, among other things, violent behavior towards police and Lakers' security, which lead to a number of people being injured, as well as causing property damage.

It didn't end at the arena. The league states there were more occurrences of violence and rioting at a motorway rest area, when fans of the Dragons encountered supporters of another National League team.

The three-year ban for the 83 people isn't limited to hockey arenas. They are also not allowed to visit any soccer stadiums in the country during that time.
