After a lengthy career full of success in both Europe and the United States, Finnish goaltender Mikko Koskinen has officially decided on his future.

At 35-years of age, goaltender Mikko Koskinen has now officially called an end to his lengthy career in hockey, spanning an impressive 17 years after debuting professionally all the way back in 2007 in Finland. His career would take him to the NHL for 4 appearances with the New York Islanders in 2010, before ultimately becoming a key piece of the Edmonton Oilers from 2018 up until 2022.

Since that point, Koskinen has been in Switzerland playing at the highest level, and while he was expected to return to SM-Illiga and finish his career in Finland in 2023-24, it has now been revealed that he is officially retiring.

"Ice hockey goaltender Mikko Koskinen is ending his playing career, according to information received by Iltalehti from several sources."

"Koski was rumored to be a league newcomer to Kiekko-Espoo's goal for next season. However, according to current information, this will not happen."

While he never reached the heights that some expected too due to his impressive talent, Koskinen was a solid goaltender in the NHL, KHL and whichever league he was playing in, with his final NHL numbers coming out to 85-60-13 with a 3.01 GAA and a .906 save percentage.

Ultimately, he may not have been a longtime goaltender in the NHL, but Koskinen has had a fantastic career over the span of 17 seasons, and with so much knowledge and wisdom, he will likely remain involved in hockey in some capacity, but for now,the 35-year old former Edmonton Oilers goaltender is officially calling it quits.
