While NHL fans are used to seeing empty seats in certain hockey arenas, usually teams in Canadian markets have no issue getting people to games. That is, until now. Someone attending Thursday night's game between the Ottawa Senators and defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues tweeted photos of the attendance, and it is not a pretty picture. There is a sea of red and black empty seats. What makes it even worse is this is a two-for-one night where if you purchased a ticket to the game in a certain section, you would receive a free ticket to a future game in the same section. Apparently that wasn't nearly enough to entice fans to the Canadian Tire Centre. It's also worth noting these photos weren't taken between periods, they are picture of the actual crowd during gameplay. The lack of Sens fans can likely be attributed to people being tired of travelling so far outside the city's core to see games, being tired of the on-ice product, tired of Sens owner Eugene Melnyk, or all of the above.
