While his professional tryout with the New York Rangers during the team's training camp didn't work out, defenseman Joe Morrow has landed a contract anyway. Morrow has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils, worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $250,000 at the AHL level.

The Devils immediately waived Morrow after the signing. It appears the intention is to have the 26-year-old start in the AHL, and he'll be called up to New Jersey if and when needed.

Morrow was the 23rd overall pick in the 2011 draft by Pittsburgh. He spent last season with the Winnipeg Jets, scoring one goal and six assists in 41 games. He has played in 162 career games for Winnipeg, Montreal and Boston, scoring nine goals and 23 assists.
