The Philadelphia Flyers currently sit fifth in the Metropolitan Division and the there's a chance of them dropping down to sixth with a loss combined with a New Jersey or Columbus win. Their mediocre showing this season has made people question if they should be in sell mode leading up to the trade deadline.

During an appearance on The Jeff Marek Show, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman hinted that he thinks the Flyers will move on from captain Claude Giroux.

"If I was to bet your mansion on it, Jeff, I would bet that Giroux gets traded. I think Giroux is one of those questions because the time dictates it has to be and I have no doubt Provorov is another," Friedman said.

Giroux, 33, is in the final year of an eight-year contract he signed with the Flyers back in 2013. Even if Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher does decide that it's in the best interest of the team to move on, Giroux ultimately has the final say because he has a no-movement clause.

With the Hearst, Ontario native set to hit the open market in July, it might be a good option for Chuck Fletcher to try and move him ahead of the March 21st trade deadline. There isn't a very good chance Giroux re-signs with the Flyers in the off-season given the direction the team is heading in, so getting assets at the trade deadline is definitely the best idea, rather than letting him walk for nothing in the summer.

In 32 games this season, Giroux has twenty-nine points (eleven goals, eighteen assists), fourteen penalty minutes and is a minus-seven.
