Oilers reporter shuts down Chychrun rumors

In the past week, there has been plenty of talk surrounding Jakob Chychrun after it was reported that the Arizona Coyotes are gauging market interest on him.

One team that many immediately thought of when hearing this was the Edmonton Oilers, who possess two of the best stars in the game up front but have some holes on the back end. Despite this however, one of their biggest insiders in Bob Stauffer doesn't believe a deal between the two sides makes a ton of sense.

«Have people asking about Jakob Chychrun,» Stauffer wrote in a tweet. «Good D. But, IMO doesn't make sense right now. Darnell Nurse is 1LD. Duncan Keith-vet 2LD for short-term. Prospects Philip Broberg, Markus Niemelainen and Dmitri Samorukov all big left D «percolating» and cost-controlled.»

Given Stauffer's accurate knowledge of team decisions over the years, this goes to suggest that the Oilers likely aren't in on Chychrun given the lofty price it would take to acquire him. According to many sources, the Coyotes are looking for a return similar to what the Buffalo Sabres received from the Vegas Golden Knights in the Jack Eichel trade. Given Chychrun's struggles this season, one can understand why the Oilers and many other teams are hesitant on pulling the trigger on a deal.
