Eric Fehr, a former first-round NHL draft pick and Stanley Cup Champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016, has a new contract. Fehr, who spent the last two seasons in Switzerland after leaving the NHL, has signed on with Ak Bars of the KHL following his appearance with Team Canada at the recent Channel One Cup tournament in Russia.

Fehr was roommates with former NHL defenceman Jason Demers at the Channel One Cup. Demers has also landed a new contract with Ak Bars for the remainder of this season.

"I feel good and am ready to play," said the 36-year-old Fehr. "I just need to get back to the rhythm of the game in order to keep up with all the events on the ice."

Fehr was also recently asked about the prospect of playing for Team Canada at the Olympics, as it appears NHLers will be withdrawing. Fehr said he would jump at the chance.

"If (the NHL going to Beijing) doesn't work out, I would love to be the Plan B," said Fehr. "I never thought I'd really have a chance to play at an Olympics. But now it seems a little bit more real than it did yesterday."

During his NHL career, Fehr played for Washington, Pittsburgh, Toronto, San Jose and Minnesota before leaving for Switzerland. The forward has a total of 652 regular season NHL games, and another 70 playoff games. He played 23 playoff games for the Penguins during their 2016 Stanley Cup run.
