A dark twist on death of hockey player in Austria as team GM found dead in home

The story of Boris Sadecky, a hockey player who collapsed on the ice in Austria last weekend and died in hospital three days later, has taken a bizarre and dark turn. Sadecky played for the Bratislava Capitals of the ICE Hockey League. Reports out of Austria state the GM of the team, Dusan Pasek, has been found dead in his home just two days after Sadecky's death. Warning: this story contains graphic details that some may find disturbing and/or triggering.

Pasek went missing on Thursday. After a check of his home, police say he was found dead there. The cause is suicide by hanging. It has been noted that Pasek's father, Dusan Pasek Sr., died under similar circumstances. He was found dead in his office by a self-inflicted gunshot wound while serving as the President of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association in 1998.

As it stands right now, there is no word on whether Sadecky and Pasek's deaths are connected in any way, or simply a horrible and tragic coincidence. The cause of Sadecky's death has not been released and his family has asked that it remain private. His collapse to the ice last weekend seemingly had no apparent cause. He wasn't hit hard beforehand, nor was he showing any obvious signs of being in physical distress before the incident happened. For the families of each person, as well as the team members of the Bratislava Capitals, this must be a very confusing and sad time.

Pasek's father played 48 games for the Minnesota North Stars of the NHL during the 1988-89 season. Pasek Jr. had played professional hockey for pretty much his entire life before becoming GM of Bratislava. His playing career was spent with teams in his home country of Slovakia.
