Sad news in the hockey world on Tuesday as former New York Islander and Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Bossy announced in an open letter on TVA Sports that he's been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Bossy started off the letter by saying, "For more than 6 years, through TVA Sports, you have allowed me to enter your living rooms. I had the privilege to tell you about hockey as I understand it, as I know it. You've heard me analyze goals and saves, comment on assists, predict loss or victory. You have seen me laugh and other times disagree with my colleagues. You agreed, or disagreed, with my always-held opinions. I told you some anecdotes from my time and I tried to pass on to you my passion for this sport which nourished me for many years. I wanted to share my experiences with you and you have always been attentive to my words. Thank you."

He added, "Today, it is with great sorrow that I must retire from your screens, for an obligatory break. A necessary stop during which I will have to receive treatment for lung cancer. 1-0 so far, but I haven't said my last word."

"I can assure you that I intend to fight with all the determination that you have seen me display on the ice and in my game. That same determination that has helped me achieve my dreams and counting my goals, the one that propelled me to the top of my sport, when I still put on my skates."

Our thoughts are with Mike Bossy and his family at this time.
