During the first period of Monday night's game between Arizona and St. Louis, Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich received a match penalty for headbutting Coyotes forward Lawson Crouse.

Buchnevich and Crouse were going at it after the whistle, and a linesman tried to get in between the two, and as he attempted to break it up, the Russian forward leaned in and headbutted Crouse.

There was a similar incident in Saturday's game between Edmonton and Calgary, where Flames defenceman Rasmus Andersson appeared to headbutt Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto. An alternate angle showed that Andersson got his glove to Yamamoto's face and he avoided a suspension, but was fined $5,000 for roughing.

Buchnevich, 26, scored his first goal as a St. Louis Blue earlier in the first period before the ejection. He was acquired in the off-season from the New York Rangers for Sammy Blais and a second-round pick in 2022.

The Cherepovets, Russia native will likely be hearing from the NHL's Department of Player Safety on Tuesday as match penalties are automatically subject to review by the league. Any decision on a possible suspension for Buchnevich will be known around late-afternoon to early-evening as is usually the case.
