Evander Kane of the San Jose Sharks is going to be sitting on the sidelines for a while. The NHL has announced that he is suspended for 21 games for breaking the league's COVID-19 protocols.

It was reported a few weeks ago that Kane gave the Sharks a fake vaccination card before the season began. Unvaccinated players can still play in the NHL, but are subject to quarantine rules for crossing the border and are not paid for any games they might miss as a result of those rules.

At the same time, the NHL said it has completed its investigation into allegations that Kane physically and sexually assaulted his estranged wife and could not substantiate any of the accusations. Here is the release from the league in full:

The National Hockey League announced today that San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane has been suspended for 21 regular-season games, without pay, for an established violation of, and lack of compliance with, the NHL/NHLPA COVID-19 Protocol. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the forfeited pay goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Kane will not be eligible to play prior to San Jose's game on Nov. 30 (at NJD).

The National Hockey League also announced today that its concurrent investigation into allegations of domestic abuse made against Kane by his estranged wife, Deanna, could not be substantiated.
